The pillars of the ancient gate, recognized as a monument of historical interest by the Superintendence of Monuments of Verona back in 1959, date back to the Middle Ages.
These impressive structures, remarkably well preserved after seven centuries, once marked the southern entrance to the village.
In the past, Bordolano was protected by a formidable defensive system of walls and counter-walls, with a southern bastion whose furthest point reached this very spot. Here stood the main gate, strategically placed facing south.
Built entirely of brick, the pillars reflect the old gate's defensive purpose: the village’s main entrance was crucial for the community’s security.
Today, as you walk through the village center, you can still admire these imposing architectural features up close. A precious trace of history that has withstood the passing of time, reminding visitors of the strategic importance Bordolano once held.
