One of the most evocative features of the local landscape is undoubtedly the Old Bridge over the Oglio River.
This historic structure symbolically links the village to the surrounding natural environment.
Built between 1880 and 1890, it is an elegant example of industrial-era engineering. Made entirely of iron, the bridge features a large arch resting on solid stone pillars, whose deep and robust foundations ensure stability even during seasonal floods.
Today, the Old Bridge is a valuable piece of industrial archaeology and civil engineering. This rare single-arch design reflects the technical expertise developed in Lombardy in the years following Italian unification.
Beyond its architectural significance, the bridge also represents a deep connection between the village and its natural surroundings. We are, in fact, within the Oglio North Regional Park, a protected area established in 1988 and shared by the provinces of Cremona and Brescia.
The Oglio River flows gently from Lake Iseo for about ninety kilometers, winding through cultivated fields and stretches of untouched nature. The landscape unfolds like a mosaic of woodlands, meadows, ponds, and farmland—an authentic reflection of the rural heritage of the Po Valley. It’s a place to be experienced slowly, whether on foot or by bicycle, along leafy trails where many mammals and water birds can still be spotted.
From the bridge, the eye is drawn to the peaceful curves of the river, which shimmer with light and reflections at sunrise and sunset. In this setting of extraordinary calm, the bridge becomes a symbol of harmony between human presence and the natural world—a place to cross and pause to fully appreciate the beauty and serenity that make the Lombard countryside so unique.
