Set within the spaces adjoining the Church of Saint George, the Spazi della Memoria Museum is dedicated to the memory and material culture of Bitonto’s agricultural heritage.
The museum was established thanks to the Bitonto Center for Historical and Artistic Research work and to the generous donations of members and supporters who, over fifty years, contributed valuable testimonies to the city’s past.
The collection, home to over six thousand artifacts, explores everyday life and rural traditions in Bitonto from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century.
The exhibition is arranged into thematic sections that follow the cycle of olive cultivation—an emblem of the city’s identity—and delve into local wine production, wheat farming, artisanal trades, and popular religious practices. It also displays household furnishings and domestic tools.
Among the most evocative displays are two reconstructed rooms typical of Bitonto homes in the early 1900s: a kitchen and a bedroom complete with period linens and furnishings. One section of the museum is entirely devoted to the tools of traditional trades.
This Museum is vital for anyone wishing to connect with Bitonto's cultural heritage and historical roots. It offers an engaging and authentic glimpse into the everyday life of a world not so far removed from our own.
